Purpose & Responsibilities
Purpose
Western Training Institute (WTI), sponsored by WACUHO is a three day workshop held annually for
professionals who work in all areas of housing. These days are spent developing your skills as a practitioner in the
field, while examining the dynamics of change and how we can strive to advance the betterment of our field. This
years institute will focus on Three Components
Three Components
- Core Competencies (Action. Growth. Enlighten.)
- Change Agent (Commitment. Helping. Networking. Enlighten.)
- Rejuvenation (Action. Growth. Enlighten.)
To invite Association member institutions to host the annual conference. Bids will be made for two years in advance, alternating between North and South, with Fresno and San Luis Obispo acting as North and South "swing" institutions. Additionally, sites East and West include Hawaii and Nevada
Responsibilities
- Shall share with the committee that they must participate in one and preferably two off-site planning meetings and arrive early to the Conference facility to prepare for the institute and familiarize themselves with the facilitator and scholar-in-residence
- Responsible for the total coordination and implementation of the (3)-day conference including theme, goals and objectives, conference speaker(s), and Scholar-In-Residence
- Shall locate and secure the services of a facilitator and a scholar in residence to lead the WTI program
- Work closely with Conference Center Administration and staff
- Establish a zero-based budget by the post-conference Executive Committee Meeting (June)
- Request corporate sponsor monies from the Chair of the Corporate Relations Committee by submitting a "committee sponsorship request form" at least 30 days in advance of the program. Contact the Chair of the Corporate Relations Committee regarding amounts and availability of these additional funds.
- Negotiate and confirm all conference issues with the Conference Center regarding:
- Meeting rooms
- Signage
- Sleeping accommodations
- Itemized Cost Analysis
- Food and beverage arrangements

(*)=as required
NOTE: Rates, housing facilities location plus quantity and types of rooms, food service, and meeting space needs should be confirmed/requested early with Conference Center staff
- Coordinate all conference registration processes
- Recommend and help establish the site of the next year's WTI conference
NOTE: Some conference sites currently requests contact with "Registrar" (WTI Chair(s) at intervals of 120, 90, 60, 30 days prior to the actual institute. The 60 and 30-day advance contacts are most critical to the Association since attendance guarantees are required which will obligate the Association financially. Close work with the Association Treasurer is vital.
NOTE: The committee traditionally arrives on Monday. The Institute itself will begin with registration at the Conference Site on Tuesday afternoon (dinner being the first meal) and continuing through lunch on Friday. Actual calendar dates of WTI should fall within mid-October and mid-November. Dates should definitely avoid any overlap with Halloween and Thanksgiving. Secondary effort should also be made to avoid Election Day (the first Tuesday of November).
- With the Executive Committee Liaison, co-host a WACUHO sponsored pre-conference reception for the committee the evening before the start of the conference (not to exceed $200).
- Submit an informative article or update per issue of the WACUHO WAVES newsletter
- Submit a brief abstract in January to the Program Committee Chair(s) for inclusion in the program notebook
- Prepare and submit an annual report to the Vice President by May 1st which summaries the Committee activity during the year.
