Email Announcements

WACUHO occasionally sends email announcemnets out to our membership (click here to subscribe). Only emails approved by the Association President in support of official WACUHO business are sent. However, some email systems filter out those messages as "spam" or "junk." We will therefore begin also posting announcements to this website. We will do our best to post the announcement shortly after the initial email is sent. If you do not receive the WACUHO emails, please consider checking this site regularly.

+Monday 8/16/2010 10:49 AM - SoutherN RAP 2010

Greetings Southern Region!
We are your 2010 Southern RAP co-chairs, Elizabeth Hagen ? UCR, and Allison Vail ? University of Redlands. We are doing a call for a host institution for this year?s conference, to be held in late October-mid November (before the Thanksgiving holiday). The mission of the SRAP Conference is to provide student staff and new professionals the opportunity to learn about programming, how to build community, and network with peers, as well as learn from peers in the region. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to get involved with WACUHO and meet others in the field!

Think you may be interested in hosting? Great! Please contact either of us so we can give you more details about the event. You can also view the RAP Host Bid Form for your convenience, and to give you a better idea of the responsibilities of the host institution. We will need the host institution to be able to commit the entire day of the conference for our use, including many rooms on campus for programs/sessions, parking on campus, food service/catering (we prefer to use the institution?s catering offices), plus, your school will be viewed by hundreds of student and professional staff, giving you a wonderful chance to showcase your institution and network with others! The deadline to submit your RAP Host Bid Form is September 1, 2010.

Want to be on the 2010 SRAP committee? Fantastic! Here is the WACUHO link so you can officially join the SRAP committee; we look forward to working with you! http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dEJ0X0dGU1ZaODcyNC1wdnMxYnpuV2c6MA

+Monday 2/1/2010 10:47 AM - NRAP Update

Hello Northern Region:

I regret to inform our Northern Schools that due to economic issues of our State, NRAP will be cancelled this year. After an exhausted search by the NRAP Committee, the WACUHO Executive Board and myself as Member-At-Large, a host institution did not materialize. With that said, WACUHO and the NRAP Committee would like to publicly honor the extremely hard work of the Northern California RAs for their commitment to their job this year. The NRAP Committee is looking for a way to reach out to the student staff through Facebook in the next month.

WACUHO and the NRAP Committee understands that economic issues caused the cancellation of this year?s RAP, however WACUHO is committed to continuing the conference for next year and for years to come.

With that said, the NRAP Committee is currently looking for a institution to have the opportunity to host the 2010 Annual NRAP Conference. We are also looking for a Chair Person/Persons. The NRAP Committee is looking for institutions interested in bidding to host this great 2010 event. You do not have to go it alone either. If it so moves you, call up a colleague and make it a partnership ventures. Hosting the NRAP Conference provides the institution(s) involved the experience to get to know and work with others from various institutions across the Northern region. Additionally, the hosting institution(s) will have the opportunity to show off their school and their city. If you or your school would like to chair/host, please send your request to Josh O?Connor joconnor@ucdavis.edu

Dear WACUHO Members,

Greetings! On behalf of the Awards and Recognition Committee, I am excited to announce that nominations for the 2010 Charles L. Miller Leadership and Service Award are now being accepted for review. +Friday 1/8/2010 6:10PM - Greetings South Region!

Happy New Year from WACUHO!  I hope that you all had great holiday breaks and were able to get some relaxing in (and maybe just a little work – gotta stay ahead of the game, right?).

As everyone is getting back into the swing of things, I wanted to highlight a couple of amazing WACUHO related things that you should be thinking of during the month of January:

1.  WACE is still 5 months away, but you should start thinking about (a) submitting a program proposal, (b) running for WACUHO Executive Committee, and ( c ) volunteering for a committee for 2010-2011.  Even if you don’t have a lot of time or travel funds, all of these things are more affordable than you think, and great ways for you to get involved in the region.  If you have ANY questions related to these involvement opportunities, please let me know.

2.  You recently received an email about WAVES and the January 29th deadline.  Consider sharing what’s going on at your campus, or feel free to highlight one of your staff members who did something amazing last semester!  It’s a great way to share information about your campus.

3.  Last, but not least, consider attending the Western Training Institute this year.  WTI is being held January 31-Feb 3 in Los Angeles, CA.  Registration starts at $350 and includes ALL meals.  There are approximately 8-10 spaces left.  If you are interested, please check out the WTI website at http://wti2010.wordpress.com.  All of the information you could need about the conference is here, including the link to register!  It’s going to be an AMAZING event!

I hope you all have a great month – and I’ll be looking forward to connecting with everyone soon!

Kris :)

+Tuesday 12/8/2009 7:46Am - WACUHO Executive Committee Fall Meeting Updates

Hello Southern Region!

This is Kris McPeak, from the University of Redlands, emailing today to give you a quick update of what was covered at the WACUHO Executive Committee Fall Meeting.  We had a very productive two days and I am excited to share this information with you!

*The 2010 WACUHO Annual Conference and Exposition is going to be held June 20-23 at the Stanford University campus.  While that seems like a long time away, there will definitely be information on a call for programs before you know it!  The conference committees are planning an amazing event that will also be an affordable one, as we know many institutions have frozen or reduced travel funds.  The theme of the conference is “Grounded in Innovation; Pursuing Opportunity”.  I look forward to seeing many of you there!

*The Western Training Institute will be held January 31-February 3, 2010, in Pacific Palisades, CA.   There is an award for New Professionals to attend this conference – so please share the information with someone from your staff!  OR – if you are  New Professional, please apply for the award!  More information can be found on the WACUHO website!

*Speaking of technology, many of you may have been signed up for the WACUHO list-serv, but have yet to receive any emails.  We are currently exploring the use of the listserv and hope to have some updated information to share soon.

*Wow, more technology information:  The position of Technology Coordinator has been appointed on a trial run for the past four years, but we are finally going to insert the position into the leadership manual as a recurring 2 year appointment.  If you have an interest in serving the Executive Committee as Technology Coordinator for 2010-2012, please feel free to email Jacques Zalma at tech@wacuho.org.

*But why stop there at technology?  You should consider running for the Executive Committee of WACUHO for 2010-2011.  Be watching for more emails soon on what you need to do to run.  It’s a very rewarding experience, I promise you!

*Many of you may have questions regarding the 2011 WACUHO Annual Conference and Exposition that is tentatively set for February 2011 in Hawaii.  At this time, the Executive Committee is considering the viability of such a conference given the travel freezes and economic situations.  A survey to Chief Housing Officers has already taken place, so hopefully we will have more updates soon.

And for those of you who attended Southern RAP – THANK YOU!  I think it was a great conference and it was wonderful to see everyone at the U of R campus.  The committee was thrilled at the attendance and spirit that all the schools were showing!

As usual, if you have any questions about WACUHO, conferences and events, or other association issues, please feel free to email me.  I would love to hear from you!  I hope everyone has a great week!

+Monday 11/16/2009 8:10Am - Northern RAP Update

Hello Northern Region.
I hope that this email finds you well.
Typically as mid November approaches, the NRAP conference is in full effect, however, this year things are a bit different. As many of you are aware, the budget has taken a hard toll on many of our colleagues in the North.  Due to the budget concerns, many campuses are hesitant to host the NRAP Conference. The NRAP committee and myself have sent out a “request to host” in August and we were not able to secure a site. Since we were not  about to secure a host site, it delayed the planning of the conference, causing a domino effect.  However, I am pleased to say that I am currently working with two campuses that are interested in hosting NRAP!

We are currently ironing out the details, but I can officially say that if one of these campuses are able to host, we will be hosting the NRAP Conference!! The conference will be pushed back to the month of  February for planning purposes.

I should be able to pass along more details about the NRAP conference by the end of the month, so please stay posted.

I do want to assure you all that WACUHO is making every effort to host a great NRAP conference for our student staff this year and we appreciate your patience , time and assistance!

If you have any questions, or would like to help out with the NRAP conference, please contact me.

*Many of you may have questions regarding the 2011 WACUHO Annual Conference and Exposition that is tentatively set for February 2011 in Hawaii.  At this time, the Executive Committee is considering the viability of such a conference given the travel freezes and economic situations.  A survey to Chief Housing Officers will be sent out soon – please respond when that survey launches so we can get an idea of what schools might want to do for the 2011 conference.  Your feedback is important!

As usual, if you have any questions about WACUHO, conferences and events, or other association issues, please feel free to email me.  I would love to hear from you!  I hope everyone has a great week!

+Monday 10/05/2009 3:24 PM - Central RAP, November 14 2009 - It's "Off the Wall"

Greetings WACUHO member(s)!

We are almost five weeks away from Central RAP ? we are getting excited preparing for the conference. This email is to let you know there are three weeks left to register your delegation for the conference at the early rate of $30 per delegate (for WACUHO member schools). To register, please go to the wacuho.org website and click on the Central RAP link at the bottom left corner of the page. There you will find helpful information about the conference, our theme, and all registration materials.

In addition, on the website you can locate information regarding submitting a program. It would be great if we could get each of our delegations to submit a program or two.

Remember, this year?s theme is ?Off the Wall.? In memory of Michael Jackson, his songs will guide our experience throughout our day. We?ll focus on the ?ABC?s of housing, and we?ll take a look at the ?Man (and Woman) in the Mirror.? We expect the conference to be a ?Thriller? and remind staff that they are ?Not Alone.? We won?t stop your staff until they get enough?and we?ll help them ?remember the time? they first started as staff members to motivate and inspire them towards future success. We?ll even break the myth that ?they don?t care about us? and remind them of ?human nature.? November 14th will be, quite frankly ?Off the Wall!?

?Will you be there??

+Friday 9/18/2009 3:36 PM - NRAP and YOUR Institution

Hello Northern California Institutions,

With the CA budget issues and furloughs, the NRAP committee is trying to gauge what intuitions will be able to send a contingency to NRAP 2009. With that said, we are currently looking for a host location and understand that travel is a factor in your decision. However, if we could find a location, in Northern California, would your institution be able to attend?

Note: With timing and other issues, NRAP could take place later then in the past. In past years, NRAP has always taken place in the month of late October/early November. This year, we are debating to host it as late as February to allow the host school to plan under a tighter budget.

We are asking all Northern institutional to take our Doodle poll "Will Your Institution be able to attend NRAP?"
The link to your poll is: http://doodle.com/k4wnvsgar9w2i5c2

Also, if you are interested in or would like to HOST this year?s NRAP, please look at the attached proposal form. The form is very detailed with all of the hosting responsibilities.

The NRAP Committee and I are working very hard to get you a great conference. As we get some more information from all of you, we can plan accordingly More details to come.

Greetings WACUHO Northern Region!
Welcome and Hello!

My name is Josh O?Connor and I am honored to be the WACUHO Member-at-Large, North. I have spent the last four years working in residence life at California State University Sacramento and have recently transitioned to a position in Student Housing at UC Davis (Go Aggies!!). Throughout my time in California, I have attended 4 Northern RAPs and 4 WACUHO annual conferences, where I connected with an array of professionals from public and private, large and small institutions. I am going to be sending you newsletters throughout the year with valuable information and updates. Please read below for the most up-to-date WACUHO information.

About Me and My Role as Member-At-Large
I have been working and living in university housing since I became an RA 10 years ago. It has always been my passion. When I moved to California from the East Coast, I was told by my East Coast Mentor to attend the WACUHO annual conference. So I did. I remember my first WACUHO (San Francisco 2006). I felt so welcomed. It was amazing to feel this way as a new professional to a new state. Since then, I have vowed to become part of the organization that has been so good to me. I have served on several WACUHO committees and I have created strong connections with colleagues in the region. This past year, I was on the Host Committee and I continued to learn from all of my WACUHO colleagues. It is a complete honor to be working on the WACUHO Executive Board and I pledge to do my part in moving the WACUHO organization forward, as we encounter new challenges.

+Tue 6/19/2007 3:53 PM - WACUHO Committee Email

Greetings WACUHO Members:

While summer time can be labeled as rest for some, it is also a time for planning.  Have you been thinking of ways to enhance your professional involvement?  Joining a WACUHO Committee can do just that.  In addition, you are networked to valuable resources within the organization by making important connections with colleagues across the region.

It is not too late to join a committee for the upcoming academic year.  Just go to www.wacuho.org and fill out a committee appointment form.  (You can also learn about the different committees at the WACUHO Website). Then, send the form back to me via email, fax, or snail mail.  It is just that easy!!

We realize that summer is also a time for transition, and folks may not get this form.  Please pass this on to any new staff members you have so that they can experience the benefits of WACUHO.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  I look forward to working with all of you this year.

Sincerely,
James C. Smith
WACUHO Vice President

And last but not least, Membership Directory Updates
Information has been sent out to each member institution to update their information and membership roster. If you are receiving this email, that means that you are included as an individual in your institution’s membership!

However, it is possible that some of your information is wrong. It may be useful to login to update your individual information. Go to www.wacuho.org and click on “Membership.” Choose the individual login option. If you do not know your login information, use the password retrieval system on that same page.

Once you login, there is a link at the top of the page to “Edit Information Below.” Choose that if anything needs to be updated, or if you would like to change your login password. At the bottom of the page is also a link to register for the Annual Conference (make sure to select the appropriate link … Corporate Partners would choose the “Exhibitor Annual Conference 2007”, all other members the “WACUHO Annual Conference 2007”). Anytime there is online registration for a conference, a link should appear on your individual membership page.

In addition, note that you can look up information on colleagues from around the region by clicking on “View Online Directory” at the top of this page. One thing we would encourage you to do … do a “search” on this page for your own educational institution. You should see a listing with information about your school, and all of the individuals in your department. If that information is incorrect, or if individuals are missing, please email the contact person at your school (their email is at the bottom of the institutional page next to “email”) and request that they update the membership for your institution. This will help WACUHO make sure all of our directory information is up to date.

+Mon 2/26/2007 8:52 AM - WACUHO Host SRAP 2007! (SOUTHERN REGION ONLY)

Hello WACUHO Southern Members!

Interested in showcasing your institution to 500+ RAs and Student Leaders throughout the region?  Put your institution on the map by hosting next year's Southern RAP.  Friday, March 9, the SRAP 2006 committee will be congregating to look over bids from various potential host institutions in the Southern Region.  Bids should include information on catering, parking, volunteers, classrooms for sessions and in general what the accommodations for the 500+ delegates would include.  Also, please include cost estimates on costs for the day.

Talk with your staff about the benefits of hosting and submit a bid to have next year's Southern RAP be at your institution. If you think that only large institutions can host a RAP you're mistaken - all you need is a facility large enough to hold the delegations and a lot of heart.  The SRAP committee and you can work together to make it happen.

Your nomination would provide you with the opportunity to recognize your peers for their efforts in promoting diversity and awareness on their campus.  The Diversity and Affirmative Action committee will select one individual and one institution who have made significant contributions during the 2006-2007 academic year.  The winners will receive a cash prize in addition to a commemorative plaque.  We realize that this recognition comes after the fact but it is our hope that these awards enable the recipients to continue promotion of Diversity and Affirmative Action through educational, social and professional opportunities.  Pay special attention to the criteria listed on the nomination form.  Feel free to attach any appropriate and relevant materials supporting the individual or institution to be recognized.

Please be advised that all nomination forms and supporting materials must be postmarked no later than February 28, 2007.  If you have any questions about completing the nomination form or about the awards in general, please feel free to contact Mia Love novegies@stanford.edu or (650) 724-3680.

Thank you in advance for your participation!

Mia Love, DAA Chair

+ Tue 2/13/2007 4:51 PM - WACUHO - Host SRAP 2006! (Southern Region Only)

Interested in showcasing your institution to 500+ RAs and Student Leaders throughout the region?  Put your institution on the map by hosting next year's Southern RAP.  Friday, February 16th, the SRAP 2006 committee will be congregating to look over bids from various potential host institutions in the Southern Region.  The bids will include information on catering, parking, volunteers, classrooms for sessions and in general what the accommodations for the 500+ delegates would include.  Estimates on cost are necessary so start looking into this today.

Thanks,
-Jacques

+Wed 2/7/2007 3:00 PM - WACUHO Website Temporary Interruption

Hello WACUHO Members!

As per our earlier email, WACUHO is switching servers.

This requires us to "repoint" our DNS regisration for www.wacuho.org. During this transfer, which should take place within the next 24 -36 hours, there may be some inaccessibility of the WACUHO website. However, after that, full functionality should be restored.

The web address will still be www.wacuho.org, nothing about that will change.

We appreciate your patience in this process.

+Tue 1/30/2007 10:28 AM - WACUHO Server Switch

Hello WACUHO!

I am emailing because WACUHO is switching server hosts.

The server is the actual machine which houses all of the information for our WACUHO website, including all of our database information. The host is the company which provides and maintains access to the server. Over the last several years, we have had ongoing problems with our current host, including downtime (time when our website was not accessible) and lack of response to help requests. The Executive Committee has been discussing these issues and recently determined to go with a new host company.

We are beginning the process of that shift today. The website will still be available. However, users will not be able to access database-related functions (including conference registrations and the directory).

Other than that, you should see no change.

We will continue to email our membership about the process, so you will receive updates about what is going on.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

+Thu 1/25/2007 8:30 AM - WACUHO Sad News

Dear WACUHO,

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the death of one of our WACUHO family, Syd Bassow.  Syd was the President and owner of Bassow Sales Company and corporate friend.  For many years, Syd and Mary have been a given at annual conferences, smiling and welcoming all with stories to share and items to show.

Syd was known to all, and in 2002 Syd was chosen as the RW Gang Award recipient for his constant support for the association.  An on-line article about his life

(http://www.legacy.com/chicoer/Obituaries.asp) aptly notes that Syd was "really in the business of touching peoples' lives and putting smiles on their faces with his incredible gifts of hospitality and humor."  Anyone who has interacted or worked with Syd would wholeheartedly agree.

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to Mary, Larry and the rest of the family.

Please feel free to send the family an on-line condolence message at nbcfh.com.

Sincerely,
Alex Belisario
WACUHO President

+Thu, 30 Mar 2006 19:06:35 - WACUHO Annual Conference Broadcast

Hello Passengers! The landing gear is down and we are on final approach for the 50th WACUHO Conference! Some last minute landing instructions from the flight crew:

Remember that the opening reception on Sunday is all about school/company spirit! Show your pride and colors! Let folks know where you are from!!! Find an excuse to go shopping at the campus bookstore! You may need that warm jacket or sweatshirt because....

..the 10 day forecast for this area is for rain and showers. Prepare yourself. The location of the hotel (next to the bay) can bring cold gusty wind as well. Good news: I think the pool is heated.

Want to see the hotel? Paste this link: http://sanfranciscoairport.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/ The website has a cool virtual tour of guest rooms and public areas.

Taking a shuttle to the hotel from an airport? Remember, we are at the the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport located in Burlingame. There is a free shuttle from SFO, make sure you are on the right one. There at least three other Hyatts in the SF area...make sure to get to ours.

Dress it up! The conference grand banquet preferred dress on Tuesday Night is Black, White, and Gold. Not tuxedo formal, but black and white are the colors of choice.

Time zone change during flight!!! Remember to set your clocks ahead this weekend.

On behalf of your planning crews, welcome to WACUHO 2006. We know you have several conferences to choose from so we thank you for choosing WACUHO 2006. Watch your step as you disembark.

Your Flight Captain/Conference Chair, Jose Andalis

Hello WACUHO Passengers!

Well, it's only a matter of days until we all converge at the Hyatt Regency. The planning committees are looking forward to welcoming you to our conference journey. We are in the final stages of our "flight plan" but want to make sure you are ready for departure. In that regard please inform your flight crew of the following:

Contact Celina Noriega at noriegac@csusb.edu if you registered for the conference and have not received your confirmation.

Contact Jose Andalis at jandalis@menlo.edu if you have folks who are attending the conference but for some reason are not pre-registered . For example, if staff is waiting for campus approval or planning on doing day registration on site. We are trying to get accurate registration counts in order to work better with our vendors and conference hotel. Any information ahead of time
will help in that process.

Please remember as well, anyone who comes to the conference, including presenters, are obligated to register for the conference.

For more information on the conference, please link to the website through the www.wacuho.org homepage.

See you next week! And remember to set your clock one hour ahead this weekend (Spring forward)!!! We don't want you to (literally) miss your flights! Take care.

+Tue, 21 Mar 2006 06:48:22 - WACUHO Mentoring Project

The New Professionals Committee is seeking mentors and mentees to participate in the Mentoring Project at the 2006 Annual Conference.

If you are planning to attend the conference and would like to participate in this unique experience, please fill out the on-line questionnaire at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=427391910323 by March 31st.

What is the mentoring project?
The mentoring project pairs up one or more mentees (usually a New Professional or Graduate Student) with an experienced colleague in the field (mid-level or higher). We try to pair mentors and mentees based on similar interests, career paths, etc. The mentor and mentees meet at the Annual Conference and have the opportunity to connect face to face, share experiences and ask questions at the Mentoring Breakfast that will take place on Monday morning of the conference. After that, the mentor and mentees are encouraged to continue communication beyond the conference.

We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity.

Sincerely,

Alli Myers St. John - Co- Chair New Professionals Committee
Ryan-Jason Henne - Co-Chair New Professionals Committee

+Sat, 18 Mar 2006 07:43:49 - WACUHO Conference Placement Center

Greetings WACUHO,

Are you looking for top quality candidates to fill your positions at your respective institutions? Are you an individual who is looking for a new job / the next challenging position in your career? If so, don't forget the WACUHO placement center. This wonderful resource is free to all WACUHO members.

The placement center will be located in the hospitality suite at the annual conference. If you are an employer and you would like to post your job description, please e-mail me an electronic copy at mary.tregoning@ucr.edu on or before March 29th. If you are a candidate and you would like to post your resume in the placement center, please e-mail me an electronic copy of at
mary.tregoning@ucr.edu on or before March 29th. If you have any last minute vacancies or resumes please feel free to bring a hard copy with you to the conference. We will include them in our employer/candidate binders.

Please note we will provide you with a mailbox, access to both employer and candidate informational binders, as well as employer and candidate communication forms. It will be your responsibility to coordinate meetings / interview times with one another. Due to space constraints we will not be able to provide interview rooms at this years convention. But there are plenty of
reasonably quiet hotel common areas that will be perfect as an interview setting. Conducting interviews in private sleeping rooms is highly discouraged by WACUHO. Good luck with your searches, I hope to hear from you soon.

+Sat, 11 Mar 2006 09:47:21 - WACUHO Diversity and Affirmative Action Awards

Dear WACUHO Member,

Does your institution or department or any specific member of it go above and beyond the call of duty when addressing issues related to diversity or affirmative action? The WACUHO Diversity and Affirmative Action committee would like to invite you to nominate your colleagues and/or institution for a Diversity and Affirmative Action (D&AA) Award of Recognition. The presentation of the award will take place in April at the annual conference being held at the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame, CA.

Your nomination would provide you with the opportunity to recognize your peers for their efforts in promoting diversity and awareness on their campus. The Diversity and Affirmative Action committee will select one individual and one institution that has made significant contributions during the 2006-2007 academic year. The winners will receive a cash prize in addition to a

Dear Colleague,

Last month, a letter was mailed to you inquiring into your interest of your institution hosting the WACUHO 2008 conference. The Time and Place Committee is looking for a few good institution(s) interested in bidding to host this great event. You don’t have to go it alone either. We have attempted to simplify the bidding process by including a sample bid packet; please have your packet include all elements as in the attached sample. The deadline has been extended for you to submit your bid by 5pm, Friday, March 10, 2006. All completed bids should be either e-mailed to the Time & Place Chair (Dana Pysz, danap@orl.ucla.edu) as attachments, or mailed to:

Don’t miss this incredible chance to be the institution that helps to give the greatest showcase of the year, for all colleges and universities professionals affiliated with “WACUHO”. Still considering whether or not to attend the Western Training Institute (WTI) on January 26-29, 2006 in Reno, Nevada? Here is some information that might encourage you to attend! Learn about the Resident Scholar teams who will facilitate most of the institute as well as what the city of Reno has to offer!

Andy Klingelhoefer, Dean of Student Life at California State University in Monterey Bay, and Valarie E. Brown, PhD, Dean of Enrollment Management at Cogswell Polytechnical College, plan to focus on the core competencies needed for housing and residential life staff. They will utilize feedback provided from a recent survey, as well as research that has been conducted and reported on through ACUHO-I programs and publications. Their interactive sessions will ask WTI participants to consider core competencies and develop a personal plan for utilizing and building on core competencies they already have, as well as developing new ones.

Staci Buchwald, Associate Dean of Students/Residential Life at Scripps College, and Stuart Huggins, Resident Director at Pepperdine University, will focus on the premise that in order to act as an effective change agent in your organization, people should act from their place of strength. In order to help WTI participants identify and analyze their strengths, prior to arriving at UNR Reno, each person will complete the 30-minute on-line Strengthsquest Assessment. The cost of the assessment is being graciously donated and is a benefit of registration in WTI. The interactive sessions will include activities designed to get people comfortable with their strengths, how to nurture them, and how to engage others in this model.

The purpose of the Joan F. Mortell WTI Scholarship is to reward outstanding achievement and to provide encouragement to new professionals in WACUHO. It is designed to support a new professional who may not otherwise be able to attend the conference without the benefit of the scholarship. The Joan F. Mortell scholarship covers $500 toward conference registration, travel, and lodging. One scholarship will be awarded for the 2006 Western Training Institute.

Scholarship Eligibility:
Eligibility is limited to new professionals or graduate students at a WACUHO member institution. Specifically, a new professional is defined as: someone with no more than three years professional experience; someone working in a functional area encompassed by the WACUHO mission; someone employed by a WACUHO member institution; and someone that does not qualify as a student under the student definition. A student is defined as: someone that is enrolled full time in a degree granting program and as someone that is not employed full time. The scholarship recipient will be selected based on personal demonstration of how he/she will be or has been contributing to WACUHO and/or ACUHO-I, incorporating WACUHO and/or ACUHO-I into his/her work environment and/or how attending the Western Training Institute will help them professionally.

Important Dates:
To be considered, please have completed application and supporting materials to Ryan-Jasen Henne by 5:00 pm, December 7th, 2005. The committee will be meeting to screen all applications and make a decision on the scholarship recipient. All applicants will be notified via phone or email of their status.

+ Wed, 12 Oct 2005 08:41:32 - C-RAP Programming Deadlines Extended! (sent only to Central Region Members)

Greetings everyone!

Central RAP is quickly approaching, and we hope that you and your students are gearing up to present some outstanding programs for the region. The Programming Committee wanted to share with you a couple of important announcements:

*The deadline for program submissions has been EXTENDED! All programming submissions now must be submitted no later than October 19th at 5pm. Please link to www.waucho.org <http://www.waucho.org> and click on Central RAP 2005 to access the programming submission form. Remember, student programs must be approved by their supervisors. Also, we are encouraging professional staff to submit programs as well. We would like to see everyone shine on stage this year at UCSB, so please consider presenting!

*In addition, submitting programs counts towards Spirit points for your school! Program submission is worth 5 points. The number of programs submitted, accepted, and presented from your institution will be accounted and calibrated with the amount of delegates attending from your institution.

*Also, we are looking for professional staff volunteers to facilitate our round table discussions during the last session of the conference. Facilitators will be given questions to use during the round tables, but are primarily needed to facilitate the conversation with the topics the students want to discuss. If you or someone at your school is interested, please e-mail any of us on the programming committee:

Christine Paul, California Lutheran University
(805) 493-3220 clpaul@clunet.edu

(805) 493-3950 cbroat@clunet.edu

Daniel Patterson, Loyola Marymount University
