Graduate Resident Director

POSITION SUMMARY
The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking dynamic and diverse candidates for a live-in Graduate Resident Director position. Under the guidance and supervision of the Resident Director or the Area Coordinator, the Graduate Resident Director will provide general support in developing and supervising a residence hall community.

Specific duties include:

  • Supervise or assist with supervision of 5-16 Para-Professionals.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, and training of student staff.
  • Participate in on-call duty rotation, providing 24-hour crisis response.
  • Coordinate all staff programming efforts to meet the needs of the residence hall community and make sure all programming requirements are met.
  • Maintain programming budget and coordinate programming purchases.
  • Advise hall government.
  • Serve as a residence hall judicial officer for assigned residence hall.
  • Assist with or coordinate front desk operations.
  • Assist with or coordinate housing operations, including follow-up on maintenance needs, as well as maintaining key control and room condition reports.
  • Participate in programs to assist students who require academic intervention.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and finals week activities.
  • Participate in at least one additional committee or collateral assignment:
  • Advising RHA or NRHH
  • Coordinating Prospective Student Tours
  • RA/CA Recruitment & Selection Committee
  • RA/CA Training & Development Committee
  • Diversity & Social Justice Committee
  • Academic Success Committee

Remuneration:
This 10-month renewable position (with potential option to work summers as needed) includes a stipend of $1,400.00 per month, medical coverage, and 9 credits per semester (at minimal cost). Professional development funds for conference attendance may also be available. While the hours required for the position will vary depending on the time of year and the needs of the department, Graduate Resident Directors will work an average of 20-25 hours per week.

In addition, a room and board plan while classes are in session will be provided with the expectation that the Graduate Resident Director participate in the on-call duty rotation and maintain availability and visibility during non-business hours for night, weekend, and holiday programming and events; which will result in an average of 10 additional hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for an assistantship, students must be admitted to a degree-granting program at the University of Nevada, Reno and be in good academic standing. The students must maintain an overall graduate studies GPA of at least 3.00 and must be continuously enrolled in at least 6 graduate level credits throughout the duration of the assistantship.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous residence life experience and/or pursuing graduate study in Educational Leadership program with Higher Education Administration emphasis.
