Beyond Trash Talk: How to Handle the Diversity Curveball 90 min In this workshop we will examine the power of stereotypes and language through several activities as a mode to discuss issues of diversity, and provide tools to use on your campus. Crash and Burn 45 min RA's have many duties as well as being a student, which can lead to burn out (stress). RA's need to remember to take time for themselves to de-stress. Learn how to tap into the crazy glamorous lifestyle without the crash and burn. Educate your residents on the wiles of drug and alcohol abuse without sounding like their parents. Remain on their level and have a righteous time partying it up like a rockstar. Homosaywha? 45 min This program is designed to educate it's attendants about the development of homophobia as we take a look at the oppression people from the LGBTQQIA community might face. How does homophobia begin? Where do crazy gay stereotypes come from? How can you as a RA make a difference to fight cycles of exclusion? This program is interactive, and insightful. Condom Casino 45 min What do sex and gambling have in common? No…not strip poker. It's the Condom Casino! Come see Vegas turned upside down, as we educate on safer sex and try to beat the house! We have all left situations feeling that our good intentions were misread or the other party was not receptive to our message. RA Developmental Theory: Dynamics Between New & Returning Staff 45 min This segment is meant to focus on the dynamics that exist between first year RA's and returning staff members. It will explore these issues by extracting core elements of student developmental theory and applying them to Residential Education. This section encourages audience participation.
